Type: Website & Multiuser Shockwave Application
Date: 2000 - 2001
Vectorama.org was developed together with Urs Lehni and Rafi Koch, published under the name of Display, Switzerland.
Vectorama.org is a visual multiuser playground on which a maximum of ten users can design a picture together simultaneously. The past states of this constantly changing collage can be viewed in the history.
Playground
Per Drag'n'Drop, vector-graphic items and backgrounds from various libraries can be chosen and placed on the playground. The items can be moved, scaled, rotated, coloured and deleted. A special approach for the handling and visualisation of the editing process is used: Every object has its own editing handles which can be occupied by only one user at the same time. Lines from the users to the occupied handles show which object is modified by which user. The picture can be printed or sent as an email, where the following graphic formats are supported: AI, SWF, GIF, JPG, PNG. In addition to this visual chat Vectorama.org also offers a chat system which allows users to send short text messages to one or all users.
History
Vectorama.org saves the state of the playground every 5 minutes in a database, if changes have been made in the meantime. The history lets the user explore all the past states of the playground since Vectorama.org was launched in the middle of September 2000. The user can navigate on the timeline and see the pictures of the chosen date. It is also possible to send these pictures as an email.
