Title: Lego Font Creator
Type: Design Application
Date: 1999
The Lego Font was developed by Urs Lehni and Rafael Koch during the project Transport in 1999 (See Visomat). It was later added to the on-line font catalogue of Lineto.com for which an interactive font specimen was developed, as a derivative of the Visomat's Lego Font Boy. The Lego Font Creator lets the user play with the font and its building elements rather than just looking at it on a static specimen picture.
The Lego Font Creator is a simple Director Shockwave application in which the user can drag Lego items out of a library onto the playground. Beside single Lego items, the library also contains prebuilt letters in the two different cuts: A.M. / P.M. The font can be bought on Lineto.com, together with the Lego Font Creator as a stand-alone application.
In the stand-alone version, the created images then can be exported as vector data, allowing the user to open, print and further edit the results in Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia FreeHand.
The Lego Font Creator appeared in the books 72DPI, Swiss Graphic Design (both published in 2000 by Die Gestalten Verlag), and in many magazine articles.
